Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico

The Program Director I will identify individuals who are deafblind, deaf/hard of hearing with a significant disability, and elderly/senior deaf/hard of hearing individuals who may be eligible for services. Using agency guidelines, determines eligibility for services/supports from the Deafblind and Special Services department at the Community Outreach Program for the Deaf New Mexico (COPD-NM). Plans and conducts outreach and educational activities across the state of New Mexico. Oversees the COPD-NM's website and social media efforts. Coordinates services for consumers participating in the iCanConnect (FCC) program in New Mexico and in certain areas of Texas. Responsible for the oversight and maintenance of demonstration technology for the iCanConnect Program and agency owned technology used by SSPs. Position may be stressful and require a high demand of performance. Requires extensive travel across the state of New Mexico. Position may perform other duties as assigned or determined.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OF THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR I


Suitable work experience may be considered as transferable skills in order to meet minimum
requirements of the position and will be considered by the Corporate Director of Human Resources.

  • Bachelor's degree in rehabilitation (Low Vision/Vision Rehabilitation
  • Orientation and Mobility, Blind Rehabilitation, Vocational Rehabilitation, etc.), counseling, or education
  • One year experience providing technology (assessment and/or training to individuals with vision and/or hearing losses)
  • Three years providing direct services to individuals who are deafblind
  • Ability to train others on the use of computer and/or assistive technology
  • Conversational American Sign Language or Signed English
  • Ability to write clearly and produce accurate training and other reports in standard English
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs. 15% of the time
  • Ability to work and travel independently
  • Pass FBI Fingerprint Criminal History Summary
  • Valid New Mexico Driver License, proof of insurance, and Motor Vehicle Division Motor Vehicle Report for New Mexico
  • Pass drug screening test

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS OF THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR I

  • Master's degree in Rehabilitation (Low Vision/Vision Rehabilitation Orientation and Mobility, Blind Rehabilitation, Vocational Rehabilitation, etc., counseling, education, technology, or related field
  • Additional years of experience working with technology and individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, blind, and/or low vision or in the field of rehabilitation services.
  • Additional years of experience working with individuals who are deafblind
  • One or more years of experience in direct supervision of direct service staff
  • One or more years of experience in developing and managing budgets
  • One or more years in grant writing and/or management
  • Proven knowledge in the operating systems of Windows based operating systems and/or Apple based operating systems
  • Fluency in American Sign Language and/or Signed English
  • Fluency in uncontracted Braille
  • Fluency in contracted Braille (BANA and/or UEB)
  • Certification of completion of contracted Braille course
  • Fluency in alternate communication modes used by individuals who are deafblind or deaf-plus (e.g., tactile signing, print-on-palm, tangible symbols, etc.)
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Experience working with individuals with fine and/or gross motor disabilities
  • Knowledge/experience or certification in any specialized technology for individuals who are deaf, blind, or deafblind (i.e., ZoomText, JAWS, etc.)
  • Knowledge/experience or certification and/or endorsement for education of students who are deaf/hard of hearing, certification and/or endorsement for education of students who are visual impaired/blind, Certification and/or endorsement for education of students who are deafblind, CRC/CRCC, COMS, CLVT
  • Proficient in the use of low vision devices (optical and non-optical)
  • First Aid and CPR certification
