The Unlicensed Counselor provides psychotherapeutic and other treatment modality experiences that affirm, strengthen, and broaden problem-solving abilities and increase the client's self-knowledge. Responsible for providing services including counseling, case management and advocacy the areas of vocation, life management, personal growth and mental health concerns. Position may from time to time be stressful and require a high demand of performance. May perform other duties as assigned.


  • Conducts sensitive interviews to assess for an overall clinical impression, current problem, risk of suicide or homicide, and to be able to identify need for hospitalization, crisis housing, case management or other urgent or long term needs
  • Completes mental health assessments and evaluations with clients. Makes diagnostic and clinical decisions based on the evaluation
  • Completes intake forms, confidentiality forms, authorization to release information, and other forms, as required
  • Evaluates case management needs and makes referrals as deemed appropriate
  • Develops treatment plan for consumers using knowledge base of problems associated with various diagnoses and knowledge of various techniques to cause a measurable change
  • Evaluates for suicide/violence using knowledge of risk factors for suicide/violence
  • Provides individual, family and group therapy/counseling (substance abuse/dependence, women's group and parent groups). Provides direct service to individuals in community settings, home residences, and/or job sites
  • Facilitate family and parent education classes
  • Applies principles of cognitive behavior therapy in behavior assessment and measuring, recording and applying its principles to bring about behavior change
  • Provides advocacy in the areas of public benefits programs, education, and working with employers and other systems in the community
  • Participates with a multi-disciplinary team in the evaluation and management (both short term and long term) of clients
  • Attends workshops and in-services
  • Maintains updated forms and documentation for all cases consistent with departmental policies and procedures
  • Maintains weekly ongoing supervision of all cases with appointed clinical supervisor
  • Completes Mental Health Assessment
  • Completes individual treatment plans
  • Maintains case records and documentation for each consumer
  • May drive agency or personal vehicle on company business
  • May perform other duties as assigned


  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology or human services
  • 1 year experience in directly related field
  • Obtain State of Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid certification and TB Clearance
  • Valid Arizona Driver License, proof of insurance and Arizona Motor Vehicle Division 39 month Motor Vehicle Report


  • Additional years of directly related experience
  • Bilingual, English / Spanish verbal and written
